Künstliche Intelligenz und richterliche Entscheidungsfindung

Together with Prof. Dr. Philipp Reuß, the Ministry of Justice of Lower Saxony and SINC, the project Künstliche Intelligenz und richterliche Entscheidungsfindung (Artificial Intelligence and Judicial Decision-Making) aims at researching the normative, legal, and technical requirements of an AI prototype to support judicial decision-making. Together with Philipp Reuß and a great team we work towards developing recommendations for action to identify and mitigate potential challenges while the project is tested at different courts in Lower Saxony. While Philipp Reuß and his team will have a closer look at the legal implications, the social science team will focus more on the technical challenges.

In August 2025, we have presented the first milestone of the project: A framework to deal with the technical, ethical, and legal conditions for the use of AI in the courtroom. The report is available at https://reusz.eu/upload/maki_m1_abschlussbericht.pdf.
